The Geoparks

WHAT IS A GEOPARK

A UNESCO Global Geopark is an area with a particularly interesting geological heritage, where a sustainable development strategy is pursued. Inside there must be a certain number of especially important geological sites (geosites) for their scientific quality, rarity, aesthetic or educational relevance: most of them should have geological interest, but they may also represent an archaeological, natural, historical or cultural value. In the geoparks it is possible to gain a greater awareness of the close connection between the man and the geological elements of the area.
